Continuing Professional Development

As recognized providers of quality continuing education for 50 years, we are experts at assembling the appropriate stakeholders, conducting effective needs assessments, and producing, delivering, and evaluating innovative and cost-effective education and training in multiple modalities. We enjoy a position of trust with many professional accreditation boards in the state who have accepted the AHEC contact hour/CEU as a “seal of approval” for educational programs. From the beginning, we are involved with program planning to ensure the programs we provide credit for meet established guidelines for audience assessment, program objectives, evaluation, and faculty requirements for unbiased, evidence-based presentations.

NC AHEC Registered Nurse Refresher Program

NC AHEC Registered Nurse (RN) Refresher Program

The NC AHEC RN Refresher Program has been active since the early 1990s. It allows nurses with inactive licensure for five or more years to reactivate their license with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. The program is also available to nurses with active licenses who have not worked in a clinical area for some time and would like to update their knowledge and skills. The Part I Theory Course is hosted through the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Center for Lifelong Learning with faculty support from the School of Nursing. The program includes 24 self-paced, online modules and covers various topics from contemporary nursing to medical-surgical patient care. Once completed successfully, the RN Coordinator organizes the clinical experience, which includes 140 hours with a registered nurse preceptor on a medical-surgical unit.
